After his mother was diagnosed with Inflammatory Breast Cancer on August 12, 2009, Dr. Lou Jacobs stopped shaving his mustache. The idea of somehow using his mustache to raise money for cancer related organizations was put on hold during his mothers fight against IBC. Dr. Lou’s Mum, Patricia “Patty” Jacobs passed away on May 19, 2010, eight months after her diagnosis. Not long after his mothers death, Dr. Lou’s father began chemotherapy for CLL, a type of leukemia. Dr. Bertram Jacobs, Dr. Lou’s dad is scheduled for a bone marrow transplant on August 25, 2010. The mustache kept growing and Dr. Lou was finally was able to find the time and support to begin the Mystachefightscancer.com campaign in late July of 2010. With the help of Dr. Roger Inhorn, fellow advisory board member at The Cancer Community Center in South Portland, Maine and Medical Director of Oncology and Hematology at Mercy Hospital in Portland Maine, the project got off to a great start with press coverage from local news stations.

I would like to grow a true “Mountain Man” beard and mustache and solicit donations for your charity. Do you have a process or information page I could use to show to folks at work/etc.?

I am normally clean-shaven. . . this would be my first attempt at a true “full monty” beard.

    Thanks, Tim
